Large Kitty

I have a 13 yr old indoor female cat. She has never been spayed and lives with 2 dogs and one other cat. She has had a habit in the past of getting built up hair balls (we suspect) and gaining weight... in the past few months she has come to look like a pregnant cow; as she has a very petite frame and now a VERY round hard belly... she has not lost any appetite and is still having regular bowel and bladder functions. She seems a little more ornery than usual (i have connected this with getting older, however could be a deeper reason). Usually if it is a hairball, she expels it naturally after some time. We have her currently on hairball control food and have been giving her hairball control medicine.... any suggestions as to what this could be????

Not too sure what you mean by ornery please enlighten me. The hardness of the swelling you describe cocerns me and consequently I suggest you have her examined by a vet soon. I suggest you do not feed her prior to taking her. Good luck. Please let us know what is found.

She seems to be tempermental and somewhat grumpy at times towards the other animals.... she sometimes seems to have slight tenderness in the belly, but usually is normal... her eating habits havent changed... sometimes you can feel parts of her belly sticking out (almost like a part of intestine sticking out- very hard to describe); it is very hard and she is easily sitting at about 12-15lbs (her regular weight is 5-7lbs). Other that for her belly being so incredibly large... there has been little to no change with her..... Any suggestions as to what it may be???? Thanks!

If she isn't pregnant she has serious problems if her weight really has more than doubled recently. Time for a trip to the vet.
