Kitty off colour

On New Years eve one of our 2 cats (adopted 4 months ago) came in covered in faeces, and very agitated (possibly a fight?). She had a small amount of blood on her foot. She chased around & then disappeared outside for most of the night.

We bathed her foot with antiseptic, there doesn't seem to be anything physically wrong with it now. She is behaving very strangely. She WAS very friendly, and would always come and sit on your knee- now she hides away and will not come close to us at all. She seems to be wary and very anxious and on edge all the time - growling at the slightest noise and the other cat. She won't relax, and tail keeps twitching! She is eating OK.

Could this be caused by us treating her wounds, or the fireworks on NYE? Can we do anything to restore her confidence?

It seems she is either frightened or in pain or both. If you have not already done so check all her nails. If any are shreaded at the ends then she is likely to have been involved in a road traffic accident. If any are missing she is likely to have been in a fight.
Some antiseptics can have adverse effects in the cat especially those containing phenols. It is safest to stick to salt and water when bathing wounds.
My advice is that you get her checked out by a vet. This will have the advantage that she will not directly associate any discomfort with you but with the vet and any treatment can be started there and then. After that it is a matter of keeping her in, observing her carefully and waiting for her to settle down. Good luck. Please keep us informed as to how things progress.
