Is human medication for cat okay?I have a cat who has what seems to be an infection on his face from a scratch. His face is getting swollen on one cheek and he seems uncomfortable. I cannot afford even a consultation with a vet for this problem and I do not want my father to lance it on his own like he said he would. Is there ANY human medication I can use to fight this infection in my cat? I know not to use Tylenol or Ibuprofen. I was told on the internet that Amoxicillin (5mg/lb a day), Ampicillian (10mg/lb every 6 hrs), Tetracycline (10mg/lb every 10 hrs) were okay and the doses were correct. Is this safe? I need to know before MoeMoe's infection gets worse. 25/1/12 Answer this question |

*sigh* now that I look at it... There seems to be no scratch present on his cheek, it looks more and more like a root abscess... still would like to know if there is anything I can give him though. 25/1/12 |

short answer is yes antibiotics will fight the infection. Unfortunately that leads to the longer answer which is that in the long term the chances are that the infection will return and keep returning as soon as the antibiotics are withdrawn until the abscess is drained and if it is associated with an infected tooth root which is extremely likely, until the tooth is removed. 25/1/12 If this answer helped you, please consider donating to our website |
