Emm	Hyper Active Westie A friend has an eight month old Westie, which is hyper active. He has been put on James Wellbeloved Hypo Allergenic food. It has had no effect whatsoever in calming him down. Do you have any suggestions, please? He is not on any other medication. 19/1/06 Answer this question
stuart	It is important to differentiate the excitement and enthusiasm of youth from a true hyperactivity and a referra to a recognised animal beheviour specialist would seeem sensible. Dog appeasing pheromes (DAP) diffusers can be very effective in reducing exciteability. Discuss with your vet. 20/1/06

stuart	I would certainly not consider changing the food untill the dog has been on it AND NOT GETTING ANYTHING ELSE AT ANY TIME for at least 6 weeks. In practice I found that Burns dog food suited WHWs especially those that had problems with their skin. Good luck we await the progressreports with interest. 20/1/06
Emm	I shall pass your suggestion on. My friend did mention that Jake seems to have an itchy skin. I shall let you have a progress report. 21/1/06
Emm	Jake does seem to be improving, so maybe the food is doing it's job. My friend is also taking my advice regarding the training of him. 28/2/06
stuart	Sounds promising. Isn't it amazing that veterinary diets seem to be more advanced than human ones or is it that we can make sure our pets do as we say rather than as we do! 28/2/06
Emm	Well, I always say that my dogs get better treatment off the vet than we do off doctors. Vets can treat humans, but doctors are not supposed to treat animals. That must mean something!!!!! 1/3/06
