very ill staffy
my 9 year old staffy dog who is not castrated had a trial castration injection at the vets lastweek to try & overcome some behavior problems ,since then he has become very ill.
starting with very irregular bowl & bladder movements & has lead to excesive vomiting of bile, weight loss, unable to keep food or water down resulting in him being very tired & unable to walk.
he had an opperation yesterday to check his stomach, intestines etc but no problem was found. his condition has worsened needles to say he is back at the vets who is carrying out blood tests. i have learned through friends with staffys who have had the same kind of symtoms
in there dogs that one diagnosis was pancreatis and another meningitis.any ideas please?.

Best get him back to the vets who have have treated him asap if you have not done so already. I do not know of any reason why a sbt should react differently to any other dog to this type of injection.

very ill staffy on the mend..!
blood test results indicated acute kidney failure, prior to his trial castration injection he also had treatment for kenel cough.
could any of these treatments combined trigger his condition as i would like to get to the route cause to prevent it in the future as my vet is at a loss to explain the reason why it happened as the dog had not eaten, or been anywhere out of his daily routine prior to him falling ill.
he is making a speedy recovery im happy to say!

REPLIES:
I am inclined to think that it is all coincidental and hope that the kidney problem does not leave him with any long term side effects. I strongly advise that this is monitored with repeat blood tests at intervals advised by your vet which will no doubt reflect his physical condition. Good Luck
