Demodectic Mange in YT (Joan Bolton)I have sent 2 requests before but not sure if you have got them. My four years old Yorkie has demodectic mange on her feet. She has had all the various baths vetri dg to build her immune system and antibiotics. I shampoo her feet every day but it will not go. She has advocate once a month on her neck. The only thing left is the invermecitin injection. I know this is risky and dont know what to do. 17/10/05 Answer this question |

This question has not come up on the website before. If you are sure you have posted it then please let us know and we will take it up with our web site designers. It appears that you have had the risks associated with the injection of ivermectin explained. If the anti demodectic washes have been used as directed without effect and the diagnosis has been confirmed by laboratory results then ivermectin is worth trying despite the risks. I hope this helps. Please will you let us know the result. 17/10/05 |

Diagnosed by skin scrapes. 12 baths at the vets. Endless by me. Can the injection kill her? What side effects can it have? 17/10/05 |

The injection is not licenced for use in the dog. It is not likely to kill her if the dose is carefully calculated. It can cause depression in some animals and overdose will cause coma. The injection is painfull and dogs will often howl after injection and scratch at the site. I thought I had posted a reply to all your questions a long time ago. Please accept my apologies for the delay. 22/12/05 |
