Hard red lump on my dogs head

Hi, My 1 year 2 month old female cocker spaniel has a hard red lump on the top of her head. It has been there for about 4 months. I have been to see a vet and they said they are unsure what it is but they can remove it and send it off to be tested, but I don't know if I want them to operate if they don't know what it is incase it makes it worse. Could anybody give me a clue about what it could be and if it is porentially serious?

Thanks

difficult if not impossible to give specific advice about any clinical case though in general the sooner these lumps are removed then the less likely there is to be any long term problems in terms of post operative healing, recurrence of growth or spread to other locations in the unlikely event of it being a malignant tumour.
the simple advice is get it removed as soon as possible.

I will. Do you think it could be anything serious? She was not botherd when we touched it first of all, now she gets annoyed. Just think because shea annoyed with people fidling with her head. She is acting normal, eating normal etc. no other lumps on her. Is there a risk that operating may make it worse or may make it spread?

Thanks

She has had the operation yesterday, wen't well. The lump has been sent away for testing. She has the head collar on to stop scratching at the moment. Hates it she does! Keeps crying all the time. Fingers crossed the lump was nothing serious

However much she hates it leave it on it is for her own good.
Fingers crossed for a good result.
