Furr lossMy Akita appears to be losing clumps of furr from his hind quarters I have heard that this is common in Akitas. He is not gnawing or scratching so no irritation that I am aware of! 12/2/12 Answer this question |

brush it out mark the extent of the patch with a felt tip and if getting bigger get it looked at by a vet. 12/2/12 If this answer helped you, please consider donating to our website |

I can see without brushing his fur through that the patches are getting bigger, as I stated there is no irritation at the moment! I have been advised to use a medicated shampoo, to see if that helps. Right now I would not be able to afford to take him to the vets. 13/2/12 |

I have just brushed his fur through and he had a very healthy looking coat underneath the fur that is coming out! I believe he may just be losing a winter coat? Is this possible? 13/2/12 |

yes that is possible and if the undercoat is healthy and the skin normal then it is very likely that that is what is happening. Clearly it is not just the daffodils that are caught out by the weather. 13/2/12 If this answer helped you, please consider donating to our website |
