Farm Animals » Hermaphrodite Goat
I have a one and a half year old Nubian doe. She was a triplet and her mother didn't want her, so I bottle fed her. As she grew, I began to notice that her vulva stuck out from her back end in a bulb shape. Last October, she began to act very "bucky." After practically a year of research, I have determined that she is a hermaphrodite. I read an article that described a surgery that would remove her male parts and possibly cause her to act less bucky. Does anybody have any experience with hermaphrodite goats? Has anybody ever heard of this surgery? If so, is she already too old? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It will be possible to remove the testicles if they or it can be found. if they are feelable then this will be relatively straight forward though will by law require an anaesthetic. if this can be acheived then the male behaviour will eventually dissappear. I assume that her siblings are one of each.
Thanks for your help! Yes, both of her siblings are one of each. Now I just need to get up the nerve to confront my vet on this slightly embarrassing issue :P
Hello, I thought I would just give a quick update. Last month, we took the goat in to the vet and he confirmed the diagnosis. Two weeks ago, she went back to have the surgery. She is now a completely changed goat! We thought it would take longer to get the testosterone out of her system, but I'm not complaining!
