Please can someone reassure me?

I posted a few months ago about my horse and her ringbone. After no improvement the vet surgeon is going to perform a pastern Artherodesis ( think thats how you spell it) and because of this she will have to be knocked out completely. Please can you reassure me about horses and anastetic as I'm really worried. Thank you x

I am in no way surprised that athrodesis has been elected and there is no way that this can be done without a full anaesthetic.
There is a risk in anaesthetising any animal and no one will pretend that the risk in horses is greater than in many of the smaller species. As long as all reasonable precautions are taken then one just has to accept that risk and go for it.
On the bright side it is a great deal less of a risk than it was even just a few years ago. Just trust your vet and go for it!
Please do keep us informed of the progress.

Thanks for your reassurance, she had the operation last night and everything went well, she was straight up (as soon as she was allowed) she is now sporting a lovely blue cast and had morphine for the pain this morning so she was happy, if not a bit subdued :-P Hopefully she'll be able to come home in the next week or so so fingers crossed then its just a waiting game for six months. :)
