This question is related to: Sika the New forest pony
Naughty Nappy behaviourHi, we got this 13.2hh new forest mare for my daughter towards the end of last year, she was sold as "green" and only ever used as a light hack before (ran the forest for 3 years), she's settled in well and is very loving to my daughter and I, she comes to call and seems happy with her field mates, we love her to bits. My daughter (she's 9 years old) can bring her in from the field, groom her, pick her feet ect without any probs or help. But her behaviuor after this is becoming an issue, she's VERY stubbon, even in hand sometimes she will just REFUSE to move, what ever you try she stands solid and says no. Unfortunatly we do not have a school onsite, but can ride in the field once the ground drys out. When taken out from the yard (either riden or in hand) she can get VERY nappy, she'll stop solid, spin, rear, buck, squeel, grunt, head toss, stand still then bunny hop into two paces of canter then stop again, chew her bit, you name she does it. 15/2/12 Answer this question |

She is not quite as bad if we go out with another pony walking inhand too. There is one bridal way near us that I just cant get her along! Most the time riding in the yard she is ok, but out is a different story, she has improved a bit this week with the use of a "knotted head collar" and a firm hand from someone at the yard, but still has a long long way to go. I dont want to give up on her, she's a real poppet, but I also need to think about my daughters safty, any ideas on the way forward would be greatfully recieved! 15/2/12 |

perseverance and patience me thinks. I would only consider taking her out with another and preferably with an experienced horseperson 15/2/12 If this answer helped you, please consider donating to our website |
