Dog suddenly wobbly on back legs won't jump
I have just returned back from holiday and picked up red, my border collie from my parents.
My mother mentioned about him walking funny for the last two days before I returned but they hadn't been letting him run since they noticed.
When red saw me he ran round jumping excited and I thought nothing of it again till we got home and I noticed that he was slipping on the tiles.
He doesn't normally jump up but he doesn't put weight on his back legs and seems to fall down to sit.
He is eating and drinking normally and he doesn't appear to be in any pain but maybe has a slight arch to his back and won't stretch his rear legs out away from himself but still does with his tail out stretching his front legs.
I should mention that my parents are farmer's and even though red gets regularly exercised I wondered if he could of hurt himself playing with their dogs or jumping on or off the quad, maybe stiff from running more than usual or if it is something more serious. I have booked in to the vets on Monday but just wanted to know if it could be something serious or he just needs rest.

The recent changes in routine may well be significant both in terms of increased and changed pattern of exercise and daily routines.
Do ask your parents if they had noticed any change in bowel function.
I would certainly check or get his anal glands checked and observe him closely over the weekend for any continued deterioration. Short frequent controlled excercise and avoid stairs steps and jumping onto furniture etc. Do consider getting him to your vet if there is any suggestion of continuing deterioration over the weekend and if he is not improving over the weekend.
Do not use any human pain killers they will only mask his symptoms and make any subsequent veterinary examination.
Please do let us know how he progresses

And ps if he does not improve do not feed him before getting him to a vet on Monday

After going to the vet we've been told that it's likely he has slipped a disk in his back and this has affected his spinal cord which is why he was wobbly.
We have been given anti inflammatory and pain killers and he has to have bed rest for two weeks when we have another check up.

Thank you for letting us know. Follow the vets advice and keep his exercise and weight strictly controlled remembering that as any pain is numbed he will not know if he is doing too much.
